Mike learned about photography from his dad and also from high school classes. His creative ability was noticed early in high school by his history teacher Miss Abrahamson. For a class project, Mike took pictures of fellow students of many races and combined them in a slide show using music from the Civil War era. This was to bring awareness of the reasons we should be color blind to each other and learn to live together in harmony. This was in 1970, a time just after the loss of DR. Martin Luther King, Bobby Kennedy and the turmoil of the late 60’s. Through school Mike pursued his creative abilities by taking every course in photography and film available. Mike learned about context and composition in photography in these classes.
At the time, due to the expense of film developing, Mike rolled his own (film that is) from bulk and processed it himself in a dark room in his home. Learning from the ground up, Mike understands what it is to make a great shot
After school Mike was in a singing group, promoted Christian concerts, worked as a DJ at a radio station and worked as a professional magician for 15 years. With this well rounded experience and dealing with the public for over 36 years everyday in his current job, Mike can understand what it is you need and provide it.
Digital photography has been around a long time, however, only today with advances made, technology at last has come to be a medium where creativity is not lost in the pixels. Today digital photography has come to a useful place where Mike takes full advantage of it. Mike uses an Olympus E-3 for his photography and has used a Nikon, Olympus E-500 and Olympus E-1 in the past as well.
His pictures have been said to stir emotion. By using soft blurs, sharp contrasts, night photography and depth of field with a unique style, Michael separates himself from your average photographer. With a love for New York City, Mike captures the highlights of the Hudson, surrounding buildings and their reflections from the New Jersey shoreline which his dad first took pictures of back in the 1940’s.
In recent years, Mike has been shooting models from fashion to art nudes. Mike's work has been featured in many publications and web sites around the world. This is the only place to buy Mike's work to own for yourself. Please take a little time and enjoy the Photography of Michael P. Randazzo.
